Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) About Firewood
Sekelbos is widely considered the best firewood for braai because it burns slowly and produces strong, long-lasting coals. Black Wattle is also a great option for a balance between heat and burn time, while Blue Gum is better for quick fires.
Sekelbos burns the longest due to its dense hardwood structure. Black Wattle offers a medium burn time, while Blue Gum burns faster and is best suited for short-duration fires.
Sekelbos produces the best coals, making it ideal for braai and slow cooking. Black Wattle also produces good coals, while Blue Gum produces fewer and shorter-lasting coals.
Black Wattle and Sekelbos are the best choices for indoor fireplaces because they burn longer, cleaner, and produce less smoke when properly dried.
- Sekelbos: Best overall, long burn, high heat, and minimal smoke
- Black Wattle: Great balance, steady burn and good heat output
- Blue Gum: Can be used indoors but burns faster and may produce more smoke if not fully dry
For indoor use, always choose properly dried wood to ensure efficient combustion and better air quality.
- Blue Gum burns fast and is more affordable
- Black Wattle burns longer and offers better overall value
- Sekelbos burns the longest and delivers premium performance
Each type is suited for different needs depending on usage and budget.
Yes, all our firewood is properly dried and ready to burn. Dry firewood produces more heat, less smoke, and burns more efficiently compared to wet or freshly cut wood.
Dry firewood burns hotter, produces less smoke, and creates better coals. Wet or unseasoned wood wastes energy, creates excessive smoke, and can cause buildup in chimneys or indoor spaces.
Our firewood is supplied in clean, pre-packed bags (approximately 8kg volumetric), making it easy to store, transport, and use without mess.
Volumetric weight means the bags are filled based on consistent volume rather than exact weight. This ensures fair and consistent sizing, even though actual weight may vary slightly depending on wood density and moisture levels.
- 30 bags is suitable for occasional use
- 50 bags is ideal for regular braai or weekly heating
- 100 bags is recommended for full winter stocking
Usage may vary depending on frequency and type of use.
Black Wattle is generally the most cost-effective because it burns longer than Blue Gum while still being more affordable than Sekelbos. Sekelbos can also be cost-effective over time due to its slow burn and reduced consumption.
Black Wattle and Blue Gum are both suitable for heating:
- Blue Gum: Quick heat for immediate warmth
- Black Wattle: Longer-lasting heat for sustained warmth
For extended heating, Black Wattle is usually the better choice.
Properly dried firewood produces minimal smoke. Sekelbos and Black Wattle generally produce less smoke than Blue Gum when fully seasoned.
